Our Favorite Winter Sports In & Around BV!

Colorado is known for having a plethora of winter sports and majestic snow covered mountain peaks. Many residents and visitors look forward to the winter months where they can try new winter activities or hone their skills on their favorite sport.

Skiing is the most popular winter sport in most Colorado mountain towns. With our closest ski resorts being 45 minutes to an hour away, Buena Vista offers many other unique winter activities. We would like to share our favorite winter sports in and around Buena Vista with you!

Buena Vista Winter Sports

Ice Fishing

When winter temperatures reach the single digits, the Collegiate Peaks offer hundreds of lakes and creeks within minutes of Buena Vista.

Buena Vista offers some of the most spectacular views for snowmobiling. Our favorite areas with the best snowmobiling include Cottonwood Pass, Mineral Basin, Tincup Pass and Hancock Pass.

Cross-Country Skiing

cross country skiing

Buena Vista offers ideal cross-country skiing terrain. The landscape is incredibly scenic and convenient for locals and visitors with the San Isabel National Forest out our back door. There are miles and miles of trails and roads for cross-country skiing.

Snowshoeing is great for any skill level. Our favorite snowshoeing paths are similar to the snowmobiling areas that we mentioned above. St. Elmo offers a steady climb, with several awesome mountain viewpoints to the south and east across the Chalk Creek drainage.

Hot Springs

After conquering our favorite winter sports in and around Buena Vista, treat yourself to a soak in one of the two hot springs located within just a few miles of town. Enjoy a rustic atmosphere at Cottonwood Hot Springs or a family-friendly feel at Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort.
